Newsletter and e-mail response tracking

Posted by saki [May 9, 2004]

I'm looking for suggestions if this can be done with this product. I would like to be able to track responses from e-mailing to my databse of newsletter subscribers. It's easy enough to append a unique query string to any links in the newsletter back to my site in the body of the newsletter, thus identifying the actual returning subscriber...or new visitor with a forwarded e-mail or even a tell-a-friend e-mail.

My question would be can I then identify these returning links from the e-mails and the appended id info and track the returning visitor through my site.

Newsletter and e-mail response tracking

You could append a code to the url in your newsletters such as http://www.yoursite.com/default.asp?mynewsletter1

Then on the page views by url report, you will see a corresponding url like this:

/default.asp?mynewsletter1

That would give you some visitibility into who is clicking through on newsletters. MetaTraffic 2 Pro will have better support for this.

This is good. Measuring e-mail response has long been a goal. Will this method work currently with the Beta? I have a license for 1.3...but...I'm certainly willing to test on beta.
