MetaTraffic 2.0 Boxshot

Resolve IP in 2.03 Pro

Posted by windwardtrades [December 3, 2004]

I'm looking at the screenshots of the 2.03 "Who's Online" and the IP is resolved. On my registered 2.03 pro it is not. My host has a web stats package that shows IP's resolved for visitor's, so it seems to me that DNS lookup is enabled on the server, but I'm not getting that info on my MetaTraffic reports. What am I misssing? Is there something I need to edit to get IP's resolved in my reports? Thanks !

To see reverse DNS information, you need to have a setting turned on in IIS that will enable reverse DNS lookups. Your web host most likely uses a log file analyzer to do reverse DNS lookups, which are done differently. See this for more info:

You would have to ask your web host to enable reverse lookups, they can use the above information as a guide. This is not recommended on high traffic web sites as their is overhead on doing reverse lookups, specifically on IP addresses that don't have hostnames or IP addresses with PTR records that aren't setup correctly.
