- Please identify which version of MetaTraffic you're using.
- If you switched from an ealier version to a more current one, did you follow the upgrade instructions carefully ?

Regards.

Have you run the upgrade.asp file to upgrade your database?

They are right, you need to upgrade your database by using the upgrade script (upgrade.asp). If there was a problem upgrading your database, please post the error message you received.

Where should I place new datbase file? Should it be in the same folder in which my old database is located?
As I told you earlier that I have placed Metatraffic 1.2 in a new folder. When I run the upgrade file from it, I receive the following error.

Updating data...this may take a while.

1) Installing MT 1.2 in a new directory is a NO GO! This is a valid approach for a brand new installation ONLY, not for upgrade purposes.

2) Refresh you asp pages composing your MetaTraffic environment using the ones from the zip files. DON'T copy the database if upgrading! This is CLEARLY mentioned in the docs.

3) If you have customized the paths in the "track.asp" and "track.js" files in the previous version, you will NEED to re-apply that customization BEFORE going any further.

4) Logging MUST be turned OFF if you're upgrading directly on the server where your site is hosted. Change the value of the flag to false in the "config.asp" file and upload it to your site if appropriate. No need for this is you're doing it locally.

5) Go to the "upgrade.asp" page with your BROWSER. Follow the instructions on the sreeen. Read the supplied instruction once more if more details are needed about the process.

6) Once this is done, then your database wlll have the structure needed to support version 1.2

IMPORTANT:

Read carefully the instructions to determine the necessary steps to be performed from one version to another. Fields were added/renamed/removed between versions, so it is mandatory not to skip any step.

As far as I recall, the "upgrapde.asp" file has its way to determine the version of MT you're using based on the fields part of the table. If the reported version doesn't match yours by all means, STOP right there!

Finally, make sure you're making a backup of your database BEFORE applying the upgrade to it. If something goes wrong, then you simply replace the corrupted database with your backup, fix the problem, and re-apply the upgrade.

Chad did a good job at explaining the uprgrade process in the docs. Other members of this forum added complementary information in that regard.

If you get all the information, read and re-read it if necessary, then there is no way to go wrong with the uprgrade.

The Upgrade process is there to allow you to keep your ACTUAL data. If you care more or less about what you have at this point, simply unzip EVERTHING from you v1.2 download, and REPLACE ALL the existing files you CURRENTLY have, including the new database.

The only thing that will need to be done, is customizing your paths if you're not using the defaults, otherwise you'll be ready to go as soon as the new files are on your site as if you would have installed it for the first time.
