tracking sales question

Posted by thissiterocks [May 16, 2006]

Hello,

First off, absolutly awesome product. I installed it and had it up and running in no time. It is the first product I have bought that had absolutly no errors and worked exactly as it said it would. Great job!

My question is,
I would like to track donations on our donation page - in particular, which keywords in my google adwords account converted to a donation to calculate ROI.

I have a landing page. Can you explain the proper way to do this? I don't really understand how to capture the keywords searched from Google or Yahoo. I see the option there, but didn't see how to add it to tracking. Would I put the javascript tracking code on the landing page with a "0" sale and then continue with the javascript tracking code until the donation form is submitted with a dollar amount?

I also have the same question but using banners from different websites and not keywords.

Thanks for such an awesome piece of work!

tracking sales question

Hi,

I am going to assume you have MetaTraffic Pro because its not possible to e-commerce transactions with the Lite version.

First step is to create an action. Once this is setup, go to the tracking page and generate some tracking code with your action. Place this on your confirmation page for donations and plug in the the amount in the amount field of the code. This can usually be done in whatever scripting language you use to process the donation, including ASP.

Now for your landing page. Assuming you are running adwords or other CPC campaigns from Google or Yahoo, you would make sure you use a campaign code for the url of your landing page. For instance:

http://www.yourdomain.com/landingpage.html?mtc=mycampaign

This will allow you to associate campaigns to completed actions (with a sale amount).

Finally, if its simply the keywords from organic searches you want to be able to track, MetaTraffic will associate keywords from popular search engines including Google and Yahoo to actions as long as you have the regular tracking code on your landing page.
