I would really like to use the actions and campaign facilities on MT and I have set them up as best as I can understand from the information I can find!
Are there any tutorials anywhere with some examples that could help me please?
Actions are designed to track specific events on your web site such as a product sale or a newsletter subscription. They can have dollar amounts associated with them. Before you setup actions in MetaTraffic, you should create a list of goals you want to have visitors accomplish on your web site.
Once you have defined what your actions are going to be, you can add new actions by going to Settings > Actions in MetaTraffic. There are 3 fields to input: Code, Name and Display in Reports. The Code is a unique identifier for the specific Action. If your action is a newsletter signup, then you might want the code to be "newsletter". It must be 15 characters or less. The Name is the friendly name that you will see in the reports. Display in Reports controls whether this action is active and being displayed in the reports.
Once you have added your actions, proceed to the Tracking section and select the tracking code you wish to use on your web site. For you each action you have setup, you need to add tracking code to the confirmation page on your web site. For example, if you have a newsletter signup page, you would insert action tracking code for that on the confirmation page of the newsletter signup. To generate the appropriate tracking code, select the action type from the drop down menu and click Update. Now copy and paste the tracking code into your confirmation page. If you already have generic tracking code on your confirmation page, this needs to be removed to prevent the page from being double tracked.
Action Tracking Code Details
In the tracking code, there are 3 variables at the top that define your actions. These will look slightly different depending on whether you are using ASP or Javascript tracking. For ASP, these are cookies and for Javascript they are Javascript variables but they both serve the same purpose.
* Action: This is the action code defined when you initially added the Action in MetaTraffic
* Amount: This is the amount of the action. This can be zero if there is no amount associated with the action such as a newsletter signups
* Order: This is a unique code that prevents actions from being duplicated and provides extra detail to the specifics of each action achieved. For example, you could put the order number in here if the action is a sale, you could also put the email address in here for a newsletter signup, etc. This must be 100 characters or less.
The action will be automatically populated in the tracking code by selecting the action you want to setup but the amount and order must be manually added to the tracking code.
Campaigns
The campaign functionality in MetaTraffic Pro allows you to track specific ad campaigns and correlate visitors to any actions achieved. To effectively use the campaign functions, you should already have your actions configured. (See the Actions section above.)
To setup a new ad campaign, go to Settings > Campaigns in MetaTraffic. There are two fields that need to be completed to add a new campaign: Code and Name. Code is the unique identifier for each ad campaign and Name is the friendly name that will show up in reports.
Once you have added your campaigns, you can generate the links for them in the Tracking section of MetaTraffic. These links are what you will place on other sites to associate visitors with a specific ad campaign. When a web visitor clicks on a MetaTraffic campaign link to visit your site, it will be tracked as a click in the campaign section of MetaTraffic's reports. Also, the visitor will be cookied with the campaign code so that any action performed by that visitor will be associated with the ad campaign.
Important: You must have tracking code on the page that you are sending ad campaign visitors to in order for campaign tracking to work.
If there is something specific that you are having difficulty with I would be happy to help you via email or offline. You can use the support request form here to get in touch:

Every site is setup differently and have different goals so you might as well discuss your specific situation as it will probably be quicker.
Actions are associated with campaigns directly. When a visitor enters your site via a campaign, a cookie is used to track that visitor. If the visitor then completes an action, this is tracked including the campaign associated with that visitor and the information/association is displayed in the reports.

Tutorials for setting up actions and campaigns
Hi Chad,
Thanks - this appears to be the info from the help file.
It would be really helpful to have some examples e.g.
Goal: find out how many people who land on page x press button y
This is the code.
This is how the info displayed and this is what it means.
Also - what is the connection between a campaign and an action?
A while ago I did read something about this topic but now I can't find it.
Thanks,
Paul.
